The Broad Visit

We are LOVING our new city. We will be posting soon about all of our fun adventures so far that we've had living here in LA. This weekend, we decided to go check out one of LA's many museums, The Broad. Honestly, it's next to the MET as one of my favorite art museums. There were a lot of post-war Dadaism pieces, as well as really cool installations, and some of my favorite artist's pieces.

As an art major, I've learned about lots of different art movements, what they mean to the art world, and much more. Although many dislike contemporary modern art, I've grown quite a liking to it. There are a lot of pieces that dive deeper into our society as a whole, and uses a lot of mixed media to talk about it.

Here are some of the photographs I took of the museum, and tried the best I could to keep them true to color without using a lot of "filters".

I audibly gasped when I saw this Andy Warhol piece. His "Sixteen Jackies" piece (this is "20 Jackies") is one of my favorite series ever created. I even have a copy hanging up in our apartment. To sum it up, he was fascinated by the way our society viewed/worshipped celebrities, and here is an example of Jackie O. She was always on her best behavior, and wanted her life to appear perfect. This photo was taken immediately following JFK's assassination. It is one of the only times she appears anything but perfect. That's a summed up version about it, but basically it's a view on how we all obsess with having our lives perfect, or watching people with perfect lives.

His Madonna series is similar. In likeness to religious art, he often portrayed Madonna in a similar manner to The Virgin Mary, and other people that are worshipped. Like how we all worship celebrities.
